The Malta Developers Association (MDA) has welcomed the government’s announcement on schemes for businesses to improve energy efficiency.
These schemes are a direct result of discussions and proposals the Renewables Section within MDA spearheaded with Government and its various authorities during the past months.
T hrough its proposals, the MDA Renewables Section encouraged the government to broaden the current incentives, schemes, and initiatives in the renewable energy sector to the business community at large and not only to residential use.
While acknowledging that the latest announcement of the new schemes is another step forward in the right direction so that Malta can move closer to its commitment to have a carbon neutral economy by 2050, the MDA expects additional measures and funding initiatives on a long-term basis.
In this context, the MDA urges the government to address, without further delay, the need to get away from the stop-start approach of Feed-In-Tariff schemes, and instead have permanent rolling schemes in place, in order to ensure stability, continuity and a smooth operation.
“More funds are needed for more investment in renewable energy projects so that Malta could have a better pro-environment and sustainable development,” Mario Cachia, the Head of the MDA’s Renewable Energy Section said following the announcement of the new schemes.
“The MDA is committed to continue its dialogue with the authorities and will be proposing further initiatives in this important area,” Director General Marthese Portelli said.
