Quality and Value for Money for Turnkey Projects

By D&B

Vellson Turnkey Projects is a local turnkey company which is mostly well known for its quality and value for money and its on-the-job consistency.

Indeed, the company motto is “We simultaneously offer quality with value for money”.

Mario Vella, son of the owner of Vellson Turnkey Projects, runs the business. He spoke with Design & Build about the company and its value proposition.

Mario mentioned how the company had started off in the eighties by conducting small alterations, mainly due to the fact that his father was simultaneously honing his carpentry craftsmanship skills. Mario thus learnt the innards of the construction business thanks to his father and this too is how the company managed to attain its high self-sufficiency levels.

Vellson Turnkey Projects is highly specialised in all facets of turnkey contracting, and offers its services in-house. “It is vital to have control over the work done, and to monitor and fine-tune the quality of every job,” Mario explained. Vella mentioned the fact that the company is mostly well known for its quality and value for money and the consistency on the job. “We start a project and finish it. This mantra only pauses if and when the project we would be working on encounters problems or delays caused by third party players or issues. We do our utmost to service each and every client and adapt to their needs. And we always strive to make sure that we meet all our job deadlines,” he proudly said. He also spoke about the fact that in certain projects, the company might not be assigned to do all of the work and therefore they would need to wait for other tradesmen or companies to finish their work before they could start theirs. “Even in such cases, we make ourselves available to be of the maximum service possible according to the client’s needs,” he added

Mario also mentioned the fact that he enjoys meeting with his clients to advise, and then thus together decide upon the best solution to fit a particular issue a project would be facing. “Our work must be as perfectly executed as possible. I also like to discuss the type of material to be used when it is important to do so; to be utterly convinced that the client is set to be thrilled with the end product,” he emphasised. The company can source the material itself, but Vellson Turnkey Projects can also work with the material sourced by the client.

He said that through experience, he managed to achieve insight on most of the problems one may encounter whilst on the job. As an off-the cuff example, he mentioned a case where Vellson Turnkey Projects helped a client keep under the legal minimum height requirement of 2.6 metres in an apartment block, simply by presenting a bulkhead-based solution which circumvented the issue. “And the client was well pleased with the look and feel of the finished development.”

Vellson Turnkey Projects is highly specialised in all facets of turnkey contracting:

  • tile laying;
  • bathrooms installations;
  • floorings;
  • soffits and partitions;
  • gypsum works;
  • building restoration and conservation;
  • electricity & plumbing;
  • plastering for interior and exterior walls;
  • painting of walls and feature walls;
  • air conditioning installations;
  • building alterations;
  • steel and aluminium works;
  • wood openings;
  • balcony restorations;
  • excavations of wells and pools.

“the client was well pleased with the look and feel of the finished development”

He also spoke about the company’s employees which are not outsourced. They include himself, who is running the business, together with his father, his brother and two key employees. Now that his children have become well of age and have both proven themselves to be highly competent, professional, and efficient problem-solvers time after time, the father has taken on more of a mentoring role, particularly so during office internal brainstorming sessions whilst the company devises solutions to complex issues which the larger developments are often imbibed with.

“It is vital for our company that our suppliers are capable of helping us in our prime mission of linking quality with value for money”

The family is thus also assisted on the front line by their hardworking employees. Vella highlighted the fact that “it’s very hard to find hard working people willing to do this type of work at our required levels of workmanship.” The company employs competent people of all nationalities who are willing and able to share the values and commitment of the Vella family; the backbone of Vellson Turnkey Projects.

Speaking about the materials of choice for Vellson, Mario explained that they have over the years understood both which products and brands are the most consistent in their quality renderings, and which suppliers are reliable and modest in their pricing structures. “It is vital for our company that our suppliers are capable of helping us in our prime mission of linking quality with value for money,” he passionately told us. And this quality element of theirs branches out from the level of work and workmanship but also heavily involves operational efficiency.

Vellson Turnkey Projects follows a customer-centric approach. “Our clients are of the utmost importance to us; we place them at the heart of our business and plan all our operations accordingly,” Mario stressed. The company follows a stringent process wherein their plastering experts ensure that every project is executed professionally and with high finishing.

Plastering works are intricate tasks, and demand a lot of patience, perseverance, and fine detailing. “We deliver quality workmanship at the most competitive prices. Our staff use the right combination of expertise, attention to detail, and quality of materials so as to provide the very best plastering projects in Malta,” Mario proudly declared. “And no matter how big, small, simple, or complex a project may be, we will always strive to complete the project within our given time frame.

About their plastering technique, Vella mentioned the fact that much of this depends on the type of walls, and the quality of their laying. “Unlevelled walls require particular plastering materials and techniques, especially seeing as how every square inch is precious and irreplaceable here in Malta,” Vella explained. “This obviously means more work for the company and more costs and time, but it’s important that the finished product looks as perfect as possible.”

The company also co-ordinates with architects on certain projects and together they come up with suggestions and plans on how to make the finished product look top-notch. “Architects suggest our company to clients, because they know that we offer peace of mind – quality finishing and value for money,” he added.

Finally, Mario also mentioned the fact that the company is the ideal solution for commercial properties and developers, with their value proposition being the attention to detail, quality and that of respecting the clients
